Yo yo yo so this is my first review of a movie ya heard? Dis shit be dope! Hit it up! Turbo is about a snail who swallows liquid nitrous oxide and it transforms his body into a snail-car hybrid. What what what??? There's a taco truck too. This movie gets torqued.
The dopity dopest thing about this dank ass shit is this swaggie song that's in it. I'll put it down there dawg. It drops so hard, and is certainly a certified hood classic. It has a really ill flow, and some sick wubz. I could go ham all night to it. I think everyone should bump this on their way to work everyday.
This movie is so darn flippin' thug. I recommend y'all done be watching it, nah mean? Have a swoopin' day.
Right here we gots us a show that is truly dank as fuck. The Boondocks is a cartoon sitcom about the Freemans, and African-American family who moves from South Side Chicago to the fictional, primarily white suburb, Woodcrest. It is a satirical comedy, with humor revolving around race, social class, cultural blending. So far, I have watched the 1st season, but I definitely need to watch the other 2 because this is already becoming 1 of my favorite shows.
This show airs on Adult Swim, however, it bears little resemblance to the referential ridiculousness of Robot Chicken or the brain melting terror humor of Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job! Instead, it offers clever insight into American culture, as well as well developed characters and great dialogue. This is exemplified by the contrast between the Freeman brothers, Huey, 10, and Riley, 8. Huey is an intellectual and very adult-like kid who admires revolutionary leaders and social justice activists. Riley loves gangsta rap and saying "nigga" a lot. The dynamic between the 2 is great and very real, and it adds to the show's social commentary.
A neato fact about this show is that the episode "Return of the King" won a Peabody Award in 2006. A Peabody Award is a recognition of meritorious public service by TV and radio stations. The episode was about Huey's dream of Martin Luther King's return.
Mr. Elkin if you're reading this right now holy shit seriously dawg fo realz you should watch this show, it's really fucking good. It's right there! Watch it!
Trigun is an anime for straight ballers only! For real! Can't fuck with it! It is about a hood rat named Vash the Stampede, a lone gunman with a $$60,000,000,000 (pronounced: double dollars) bounty on his head. He mobs around with his homies Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson, employees of Bernardelli Insurance Society, and a priest dawg named Nicholas Wolfwood, through the vast lands of Gunsmoke, a planet that resembles the old west.
Before I say anything else, I have to say that I appreciate that this show's soundtrack had some drum 'n' bass in it. It wasn't even that good, but it was there, and I like that. I don't hear shit like that on TV very much.
What stood out about this show most to me was the style of the animation. It was much different than any other show I've watched. I don't really know how to describe it, but most anime these days have a fairly similar drawing style, with only slight variations. This one is very different, and pretty darn dank.
This a dope ass show homeboiii, so I suggest you check it out. Here is a link to the first episode. Swoop swoop. SwOoP sWoOp
After 4 hours of television watching and 9 cups of black tea, I am ready to write a blog post at 6:30 AM. Anyways, Spice and Wolf is a pretty darn dope animu about Kraft Lawrence, a traveling merchant in a fictionalized Renaissance era Europe who meets a pagan wolf goddess named Holo that he promises to bring to her home in the far north. Along the way, they try to make fat stacks of dank bank, lose a few of those stacks, gain some more, make bad business deals with sketchy muthafuckas, and meet a few friendly, non-sketchy people too.
At its core, this is a romantic story, although if I had to give it a specific silly made-up genre, I would call it "business fiction." Unlike many romance shows, the tension between the 2 protagonists builds gradually over time instead of rushing into sappy shit in the first few episodes. I enjoyed this greatly because it feels much more realistic. Another thing that added a lot to the realism was the dialogue. The show was very well-scripted and the interactions between characters were exceptionally natural. This series did away with the common cornyness of romance animes and replaced it with a well thought out, elaborate love story.
Something that made Spice and Wolf especially interesting was all the fancy business and financial talk. Believe or not, I actually feel like I learned a few things about old world economics from this show. I can tell that the writers put a lot of effort into making all the things about trading and banking and all that jazz accurate, which I appreciate very much.
All in all, this show is fuckin' dank so watch it. SEASON 1 EPISODE 1
Ayo! I have nothing to review right now so instead, I'm going to do a brief discussion on the advantages of animation and the advantages of live action filming.
First off, the most obvious advantage of animation is that you can do things you can't do with actors and physical special effects. This is why even in live action movies, CGI is used for most effects and anything else that can't be real, or for gophers. Another great thing about animation is it leaves more room for creation. The characters, landscapes, and objects all have to be made from scratch, and thus are more original.
Live action film has one advantage that animation has yet to overcome; it looks life like. Until animation is advanced enough to create images identical to real life, it will never have the realism of film. Using live actors also allows for more expression, with voice, facial expressions, and body language. This is why live action movies and TV shows are more common than cartoons.
I personally prefer animation (see: this blog), but that's just me. Everyone has their opinion. I don't have a picture to go along with this, so have this one of me.
Aight mane. Watamote is a very swaggie comedy/slice of life anime that ran this season, from July 8 to September 23. I just finished the series yesterday, and I must say, I am quite impressed.
The plot of the series is relatively simple. It revolves around Tomoko Kuroki, a first year high school student who has no friends at her school and wishes to become one of the "popular" girls. Despite the seemingly basic story, this show was very entertaining because the protagonist's conflict is something most people can relate to. Everybody has, at some point in their life, had to struggle to make people like them, and everybody knows that its a pain in the ass. Since the entire show centers around these ideas, its easy to relate to, and anyone could place themselves in the shoes of the main character.
Another very dank thing about this show is the animation, particularly lighting and shading. There's a lot of it. And its all in weird polygons (see image below). I'm not sure why the animation team chose to draw it like this, but it looks pretty thug.
Shows like this aren't for everyone. Lots of people prefer stuff with action or suspense and a lot going on, but if you like shows about regular day to day shit, then I definitely recommend Watamote. It is hella ballin' yo. THIS IS THE FIRST EPISODE SO CLICK ON THIS TO WATCH OK BYE #TYBG
Ghost Hunt is an occult detective anime that originally ran October 2006 to March 2007. The show centers around a high school student named Mai Taniyama who begins work at Shibuya Psychic Research Center, headed by Kazuya Shibuya. The group also features a monk, teen celebrity psychic, priest, and priestess.
Over the course of the series, the team takes on many cases that span over a period of 2 to 4 20 minute episodes, all of which are interesting and decently intricate. Although these cases are all nice and complicated, it would be nice if there were a few that lasted longer and were even more convoluted. Nevertheless, they never failed to keep my interest.
This was an overall good show. Although it lacked some of the tension and complexity of most detective fiction, it was enjoyable all throughout. I'd recommend this show to all my homies who be down with the dank shit.
What can I say about FLCL (or Fooly Cooly for long)? This show is just so damn great. One of my all time favorite shows. Definitely my number 1 favorite anime. The reason this show stands out among the many things I've seen is the intricacy of all it's metaphors and symbolism. It would take hours of analytical discussion for me to explain all the little details, so I'll just give you a basic explanation. The show is about puberty and the struggles of adolescence. The protagonist, Naota Nandaba, is literally slapped in the face with oncoming adulthood by Haruko Haruhara, an alien investigator, on earth to track down the Pirate King. If you watch the series, be sure to keep an eye out for all the symbolism and what not.
The animation style in the show is varies. Aside from the usual 2D anime graphics, it also had 3D sequences, partially animated comic-strip-like segments, and more. This is another thing that makes it stand out to me. It is as visually entertaining as it is psychologically entertaining. With those 2 aspects combined together, watching this show is a mind blowing experience.
FLCL is dank as fuck. If you like shows with complex stories that make you think, then you need to watch this. And... Thats really all I have to say. If you decide to watch the series, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Aight dawg. Time for another review. This here in one of the shows that sucks you in as soon as you turn it on, and keeps you hooked until you've seen every single episode. I'm talking about My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. What just so happens to be my favorite show. This pastel coated kid's show has an enormous cult following, comprised mainly of teenagers and adults who refer to themselves as "bronies." The show is currently airing (although in between seasons at the moment) on The Hub.
I enjoy watching this show because it has a cheerful vibe almost constantly, though it still has it's fair share of action and drama. It's bright colors and joyful characters are like a stress relief, keeping you temporarily distracted from whatever shit real life brings you. I guess this explains why the show appeals to more adults than children. The episodes are usually not directly related, but the plot still maintains continuity. I think I would like it more if all the episodes were part of one big long story, but its my favorite show either way, so its not important. Anyways, if you haven't seen it, I suggest you watch it, as there is a good chance you'll become addicted.
Regular Show is a show currently airing on Cartoon Network that premiered September 6, 2010. Its a comedy about a blue jay and a raccoon who live and work in a park in a so far unnamed city. The show's creator, J.G. Quintel, based some of the characters off of 2 short films he made a few years before, titled "The Naive Man from Lolliland" and "2 in the AM PM". One was about a lollipop headed man who tries to pay for a meal with lollipops, and the other is about 2 guys taking acid while working the night shift at a convenience store. The thing I enjoy most about the show is it's surreal art style and stories. Basically, the show is really fuckin' trippy. I also enjoy the fact that it has small hints of adult humor in it, but doesn't take it over the top. I love the art and animation of the show because it has such a wide variety of strange characters that live fairly normal lives. I'd still watch it if they did take it over the top, but its still on Cartoon Network, so that's not happening any time soon. The one problem I have with the show is that every episode follows the same plot outline. Mordecai and Rigby (the main characters) get in to some kind of ordinary everyday situation that becomes a ridiculous and surreal situation often involving life threatening danger and the supernatural. They then find some sort of odd solution and things are back to normal again. It would be nice if the structure of the episodes varied a bit more, but it is an entertaining show nonetheless. Overall, the show is dank and you should go watch it.
Here's and episode... WATCH IT! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdgj6pbPxJg&noredirect=1
Aight. This is my blog. I review cartoons and anime. I'm going to take suggestions for things to review, so suggest things. I'll try to review everything that is requested, but I won't know for sure how long it will take, because depending on what kind of show it is, I might have to watch the entire series before writing a review. Sooo... Yeah... Dank.
