What can I say about FLCL (or Fooly Cooly for long)? This show is just so damn great. One of my all time favorite shows. Definitely my number 1 favorite anime. The reason this show stands out among the many things I've seen is the intricacy of all it's metaphors and symbolism. It would take hours of analytical discussion for me to explain all the little details, so I'll just give you a basic explanation. The show is about puberty and the struggles of adolescence. The protagonist, Naota Nandaba, is literally slapped in the face with oncoming adulthood by Haruko Haruhara, an alien investigator, on earth to track down the Pirate King. If you watch the series, be sure to keep an eye out for all the symbolism and what not.
The animation style in the show is varies. Aside from the usual 2D anime graphics, it also had 3D sequences, partially animated comic-strip-like segments, and more. This is another thing that makes it stand out to me. It is as visually entertaining as it is psychologically entertaining. With those 2 aspects combined together, watching this show is a mind blowing experience.
FLCL is dank as fuck. If you like shows with complex stories that make you think, then you need to watch this. And... Thats really all I have to say. If you decide to watch the series, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
More pictures! And the link doesn't work. Nice writing, though.
